A personal desire to know more about a forgotten industry in a still tormented country led me to investigate about the development of the Cinema Industry in Lebanon since its beginnings. The purpose of my dissertation is to trace this development since its beginnings in 1929 up to the present and to discuss the achievements, problems and difficulties it has faced and is still facing nowadays.

The dissertation will be divided into three main sections. The first deals with the early days of the Cinema Industry in the Pre-Civil War period beginning 1929, with the first movie done in Lebanon, to 1975 when the Civil War started. The second section will examine the impact of the 17 years of Civil War on the Lebanese Cinema Industry. The third section will deal with the Post-Civil War and Contemporary period from the 1990’s up to the recent developments in the year 2000.
